Jackson Pollock Marble Painting

SAIC young artist learned about Abstract Art and Splatter Painting with tempera paint and construction paper. They visited the Modern Wing of the museum to look at Jackson Pollock’s paintings and created their own Jackson Pollock Abstract works.
Painting like Matisse : Still Lifes

4-5 year old artists went to see Matisse paintings in the Modern Wing to learn about his still life paintings. They created a still life of their own using acrylic, oil pastels, and watercolors.
African Mask Making

A group of 4-5 year old artists went to the African Art Gallery in the museum to learn about African Masks and Art. They then created their own masks out of plaster gauze, acrylic paint, and Mod Podge gloss medium.
The Animal in You !

4-5 year old artists talked about masks and animal faces before visiting to the museum to see the Kuba mask, which resembles an elephant trunk. The artists also learned about different cultures, transformation of identity , mix media and patterns to create their artworks with plaster gauze and paint.
Pablo Picasso – Cubist Period

The 4-5 year old artists went to the Modern Wing of the Art Institute to learn about Picasso‘s artworks. We studied and discussed his paintings during the Blue Period, Rose Period and Cubist Period. We then created our own versions of Picasso paintings using oil pastels and watercolors.
Chagall and Spongepainting

Visiting Marc Chagall

4-5 year old artists visited the museum to see artwork by Marc Chagall. They also explored the glass and metal of the Modern Wing, which gave the artists a new experience at the Art Institute!
Marble Artwork

In order to learn about monochromatic color theory, young artists in Chris’ class made artwork in the style of Willem De Kooning and Jackson Pollock by working together to roll marbles through paint!
