Fabric Dying and other Fabric Manipulations

Young Fashion students looked at designers who use fabric manipulation in their designs such as Rodarte. They learned how to mix and prepare fabric dyes and various dying techniques such as ombré and over-dying colors to transform the white cotton fabrics into their own designs.

Paper Dress

Looking at designs by Alexander Mcqueen, Rei Kawabuko and vintage paper dresses from the 60′s, young fashion designers at SAIC learned about Sculptural Fashion, Volume, Texture, and non-traditional shapes. They used pleating and folding techniques to drape garments on dress forms, with an emphasis on volume, experimental shapes, and texture.
