Horse Animations

SAIC young animators looked at the Western American artwork of horses in the Rice Wing of the museum. They learned about Photoshop painting and animation walk cycles to create looping animations of running horses using Adobe Photoshop and Wacom tablets.
Sound Effects!

After completing a couple of animated shorts, students in the Middle School Program Animation Class used the Garageband and Audacity software packages to create soundtracks and sound effects for their movies!

Young animators created collaborative animated shorts with salt, paper puppets, sticky notes, and construction paper using stop-motion animation techniques!

Zach’s Animation Camp

Animators in Zach’s 1 Week Animation Camp created 30 minutes of animated shorts, and in the process experimented with animating oil-based clays, post-it notes, articulated puppets, chalk pastels, 3D models, and digital paintings. You can view the finished animations here.
Rotoscoping Continued

Burgeoning animators in Zach’s class worked on their rotoscope projects at a rapid pace — trying to complete a frame every 5 minutes — by digitally painting with Adobe Photoshop on top of exported video frames.

Young animators in Zach’s class finished off watercolor landscapes for an exercise on parallax animation before moving on to preparation for a digitally rotoscoped video project!
Horse Walk Cycle

Young animators, after sketching horses in American Western artwork and Modern European artwork in the museum, studied Eadward Muybridge’s photographs of horse movement and used Photoshop and Wacom tablets to produce looping animations.Please click on the horse below to see the results!
Colored Salt Animation

Artists in Zach’s Middle School Program Animation Class created experimental animations with colored salts based on Nepalese and Northern Indian patterns and mandalas that we drew in the museum.
