SPRING 2011

Douglas Kerr / said The Waves

said The Waves read directly and with aging

said tiger
said globe, or the sequencing of phrases
said jug, jug, jug I sing like the nightingales,
    though not too well
said commerce,
       commerce reading Lucretius at lunch
said a circle cast on the waters,
a farm life with mud and children
said Pacific islands like a cluster of names
said Percival
said discourse in said names
said explosion and erosion,
geological trail across the ocean floor
said you, you, and you, nearby and dear
said tyger, tyger leaping
said too quickly
said but we hasten
said premonition has always been of dying in moving water
said look up, look away,
       whales may be breaching
said Percival is dead!
said a preference for mountains over the sea,
waves and ridges of mountain peaks
said globe with excess
said I love you, love you until it erodes,
     echoing
