from The Book of Mutter

The Book of Mutter is an anti-memoir of orphaned myths and broken women, with a narrative that ties together the history of the women in my family with threads throughout about the outsider artist Henry Darger, Marilyn Monroe, Frances Farmer, the actress and director Barbara Loden, Joan of Arc, Mary Todd Lincoln (and other “First Ladies”), as well as numerous seeded allusions that rise to the surface as the scraps and fragments of a memory at work. It is divided into six sections: “Rooms,” “Objects,” “Scraps,” “Weather Reports,” “Le Procès-Verbal,” and “Records.”
