Posted in From the Curatorial Fellows, Studio Visits on Friday, April 29th, 2011

In the months leading up to the MFA exhibition, the Curators and Curatorial Fellows conducted hundreds of studio visits (literally – there are 133 artists exhibiting this year and we visited most of them two or three times, more in some cases). Mitchell Chan, an MFA in the Art and Technology Department, is debuting THE INGENIOUS GENTLEMAN DON QUIXOTE OF LA MANCHA in the Sullivan Galleries as part of the curated section Exit Strategy. Posted in From the Guest Curators, Studio Visits on Monday, April 25th, 2011

Kang Joo Lee‘s large scale paintings express (and transgress) the urban grid through a complex layering of material and form. Meet collaborative team, David Cox and Alexis Grinbold. Self-identified as, daalexis boldcox, they investigate the domestic and celebrate the mundane in their recent work, Let’s Cocktail Understanding through Blind Evaluation. The objects in this installation take on a new identity, becoming “twacked-out,” manipulated, twisted, painted, sculpted, wrapped, tugged, electrified, pulsating, and whirling formations.

Artists: Steven Frost, Soo Shin, Ivan LOZANO, Jesse Butcher, David R. Harper John Baldessari’s remark, “Life is not always calm,” provides inspiration for the title given to the selected works of this group of artists who, through brazen gestures of resistance, seize contextual objects and fibers to manipulate them for their own poignant commentaries. Purposely [...]

Greg’s Curatorial Team

This year in particular, many minds have come together to create an exhibition that not only showcases the talents and exceptional work of the artists, but that also presents the work in a compelling and resonant way. With a few weeks [...]
